Kessel and Cullen key to Pens’ success in 2018-19 September 10, 2018
The Pittsburgh Penguins came short of claiming a 3rd straight Stanley Cup trophy last season, but hopes are high that the team can return to championship contention in 2018-19. According to GM Mike Rutherford, two players that will figure heavily into the Pens’ resurgence are Phil Kessel and Matt Cullen. Kessel is coming off of a season where he posted career-highs in assists (58) and points (92), and should once again provide offensive stability on both the power play and 5-on-5 situations. Cullen, meanwhile, who helped Pittsburgh win back-to-back titles in 2015-16 and 2016-17, was a key loss last season when he left to play for Minnesota. Now back in the fold, the veteran forward will be a key component in the team's leadership group both on and off the ice in 2018-19.
