Glass, Tippett, and Hayton headline WJC Canada hopefuls at summer showcase July 27, 2018
The World Junior Summer Showcase kicks off tomorrow in Kamloops, British Columbia, and 3 top NHL prospects (Cody Glass, Owen Tippett and Barrett Hayton) will be front and center for the Team Canada contingent. Drafted 6th overall in last summer’s draft, Glass is coming off a huge WHL campaign with the Portland Winterhawks, tallying 102 points (37 goals, 65 assists) in 64 games. Tippett, meanwhile, followed up his 44-goal season in 2016-17 with 36 more goals in 2017-18, in just 51 games played. Both top picks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Glass and Tippett will be tasked with leadership roles on Canada’s WJC gold medal defending squad later this year.
As for recent draftee Hayton (drafted 5th overall by Arizona in the 2018 draft), the Peterborough-native will be looking to showcase his wide range of skills in Kamloops, after a fantastic 2017-18 OHL season saw him tally nearly a point per game in both the regular season (60 points in 63 games) and the post season (21 points in 24 games).
