Petry proved he was a top-pairing defenseman in 2017-18 August 16, 2018

The Montreal Canadiens may have struggled mightily in 2017-18, but Jeff Petry was an outlier, recording his best campaign to date.  The 30-year-old rearguard tallied career-highs in a plethora of categories including points (42), goals (12), and TOI/G (23:30). Though his offensive potential came to the fore last season, advanced stats prove that the Ann Arbor-native has been excellent for a while now. In the past 3 seasons, he has a +454 SAT (shot attempts by your team in 5-on-5 situations) ranking him 15th among defensemen, 23rd in hits with 424, 31st in shots with 448, and 54th in blocked shots with 356.
