Backes retires after 16-year NHL career September 10, 2021
David Backes retired from the NHL on Wednesday, after signing with the St. Louis Blues on a one-day contract. The 37-year-old centre started his career with the Blues, where he would go on to play 10 seasons, 5 of which he captained (2011-2016). He would go on to play 6 more seasons, split between the Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks. Over his illustrious career, the Minneapolis-native suited up for 965 NHL games, tallying 248 goals and 313 assists in that span.
