Phaneuf signs long-term contract agreement January 02, 2014

Dion Phaneuf and the Toronto Maple Leafs agreed to terms on a seven-year contract Tuesday, a deal that will pay the defenseman an annual salary of $7 million a year. The team’s captain since 2010, Phaneuf has been a pillar of strength on the Leafs blueline ever since, averaging over 25 minutes a game. The 28-year-old has been solid again this year, especially on the defensive end of the ice. Through 40 games the Edmonton-native leads Toronto in +/- with a mark of +15, and is second on the team in both blocked shots (79) and hits (104).
