Biggs to Make AHL Debut April 12, 2013
His OHL season may be over but for Tyler Biggs, there may still be a lot of hockey left to play. Recently reassigned to the Marlies of the American Hockey League, the hulking, six-foot-three, 224-pound winger will have an added opportunity to impress the Maple Leafs brass.
Picked 22nd overall in the 2011 entry draft, the 19-year-old Binghamton native will hope to showcase his best assets--grit and physicality--as the Toronto farm team makes a final push for the #1 seed in the western conference. Currently 2nd, the Marlies sit just two points behind the Texas Stars, with one game in hand and six games left to play.
After a season in which he recorded 26 goals and 27 assists for the Oshawa Generals, Biggs will officially make his professional debut this Friday versus the Abbotsford Heat.
Possessing an imposing frame and a long skating stride, Biggs will look to hone his skills against higher calibre competition this spring, as he tries to carve out a niche for himself in the Toronto Maple Leaf organization. A successful showing for the Marlies this postseason could have the forward, who some compare to Milan Lucic, in a Leaf uniform more sooner than not.
