Undrafted Girardi saved the Rangers’ 2003 Entry Draft May 22, 2015
Known for being one of the best draft classes in NHL history, 2003 is also known for being the year the New York Rangers missed out on a plethora of talented future NHLers. Â Luckily for the Rangers, they found a diamond in the rough that year; a free agent named Dan Girardi, a defensive-type defenseman that was passed on by every NHL team. The Welland, Ontario-native has gone on to carve out an excellent NHL career, all with the Rangers. He has been their first pairing, shutdown D-man for the past six years, and has played more games than any other defenseman since he broke into the league in 2007-08.
