Derrick Pouliot named to CHL’s Memorial Cup All Star Team May 27, 2013
His team may have come up a bit short in the final, but that did not let Derrick Pouliot’s impressive week go unnoticed. The Portland Winterhawks defenceman was one of the main reasons why his team made it all the way to the Memorial Cup final, and was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the tournament’s All-Star squad.
Drafted 8th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 draft, the 19-year-old had an excellent WHL playoff run with the Winterhawks, where he led all defensemen in points with 20 in 21 games. He was just as dominant in the Memorial Cup, once again leading all D-men in points, this time with 7 points in 5 games.
Along with Halifax’s Konrad Abeltshauser, Pouliot was one of two defencemen selected to the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup All-Star team.
