Mrazek continues to impress as Griffins take 2-0 lead June 12, 2013

After winning a tight series against the Oklahoma City Barons, the Grand Rapids Griffins have stormed out of the gate in the Calder Cup Finals, winning the first two games on the road over the Syracuse Crunch. As he has done all playoffs long, Petr Mrazek looked sharp between the pipes, including a stellar game 1 performance.

The 21-year-old turned aside 28 of 29 shots in the critical opening match, keeping the Crunch off the scoreboard till late in the 3rd period. Fellow Wings prospect Gustav Nyquist would eventually ice the game with 15 seconds to play, scoring a crucial empty netter with the Griffins then up by just a goal.

Mrazek was perhaps less efficient in game 2, giving up 4 goals on 34 shots, but would still go on to be a big factor in the Griffins win. With Grand Rapids up a goal heading into the 3rd frame, he would have his best period of the match, stopping all 13 Syracuse shots. This included a number of big saves during a 4-minute power play for the Crunch.

The Rapids would go on to win the high scoring affair, 6-4.
