NHL Draft

Calgary takes Tkachuk with 6th overall pick June 30, 2016

Matthew Tkachuk was selected 6th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames on Friday. The American-born winger brings a lot of qualities to the table, including top-end skill, speed, grit and character.  The 18-year-old was one of the best players in all of junior hockey this past season, leading the London Knights to championships in both the OHL and Memorial Cup. After finishing 5th overall in the OHL regular season scoring race with 107 points, the St. Louis-product went on a tear in the playoffs, tallying 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists) in just 18 games.  He finished the season in style, claiming 1st star honours in the Memorial Cup Final where he tallied two goals, including the overtime winner.
