Abdelkader named Red Wings’ alternate captain October 05, 2016

Justin Abdelkader’s steady rise through the ranks since being drafted by the Red Wings in 2005 has now culminated with him being named Detroit's alternate captain. Born and raised in nearby Muskegon, Michigan, the 29-year-old winger will now get the chance to lead the team he rooted and dreamed of playing for when he was kid. A 7-year NHL veteran, Abdelkader is regarded by many as a natural-born leader, and his coach Jeff Blashill sees him as a potential captain down the road.
