BIOGRAPHY

Born Mar 28, 1991 -- Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic
Selected by Tampa Bay Lightning round 7 #208 overall 2011 NHL Entry Draft

He started his career in his native Czech Republic with HC Frýdek-Místek. Prior to turning professional in North America, Palát played major junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 7th round (208th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.  

On October 10, 2011, the Lightning signed Palat to a three-year entry level contract.  

Palat scored his first NHL goal on March 16, 2013, against Justin Peters of the Carolina Hurricanes.    In his first full NHL campaign, Palat finished second among rookie scorers with 59 points (23 goals, 36 points), just three shy of Brad Richards’ team rookie scoring mark set in 2000-'01. Palat had an eight-game points streak from Dec. 23-Jan. 9 and led all rookies in plus-minus (+32). He also won two rookie of the month awards (January and March).

The Tampa Bay Lightning win Stanley Cup July 08, 2021

The Tampa Bay Lightning were crowned Stanley Cup Champions last night - hoisting the trophy for the second consecutive season.   

Congratulations to Newport clients Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, Anthony Cirelli, Erik Cernak, Ben Thomas & Fredrik Claesson.   

The Lightning will looked to defend their title for a 3rd straight year in 2021/22.

Palat excels in Lightning win April 26, 2021

Ondrej Palat was named the 3rd star of the game last night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 4-3 in overtime. The 30-year-old winger was integral to the victory, tallying 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) including a helper on the game-tying goal. The native of Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic has been in great form of late, registering 2 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 games played.

Tampa Bay wins in 6 games over Dallas September 28, 2020

The Tampa Bay Lightning were crowned Stanley Cup champions on Monday night, defeating the Dallas Stars 2-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. It was the culmination of one of the most unique and memorable NHL playoffs in history. Congratulations to Newport clients Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, Anthony Cirelli & Erik Cernak on their incredible accomplishment.

Palat off to hot start in season opener October 04, 2019

Ondrej Palat was named the first star of the game last night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Florida Panthers, 5-2. The 28-year-old winger was excellent in the team’s season opener, tallying the game-winning goal, a +2 rating and a team-high, 5 shots on net.

Palat’s goal puts Lightning back on even footing May 01, 2018

Ondrej Palat put his mark on the Eastern Conference Semifinals last night, scoring the winning goal in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-2 defeat of the Boston Bruins. The talented winger also added an assist in the contest, along with 3 shots on net, 5 hits and a +2 rating.  The 27-year-old Czech-native has been a consistent offensive contributor since the beginning of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, registering 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 7 games played.

Palat signs extension with Lightning July 18, 2017

Ondrej Palat and the Tampa Bay Lightning came to terms on a new, five-year contract extension on Friday worth $26.5 million. The 26-year-old Czech-born winger was instrumental to the Lightning’s 2015 Stanley Cup run, tallying 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) in 26 games. Since breaking into Tampa’s starting lineup in 2013-14, Palat has registered four straight seasons of 40 points or more, including a career-high 63 (16 goals, 47 assists) in 2014-15.

Palat leads the charge in pre-tournament triumph September 15, 2016

Ondrej Palat scored a goal and added an assist, as the Czech Republic defeated Team North America by a score of 3-2. The Tampa Bay Lightning winger would go on to be named the first star of the contest, in what was the final night of World Cup of Hockey prelim games. The tournament officially gets underway on Saturday, where Palat will lead out his Czech Republic squad against Cup favorites, Team Canada.

Phil Kessel notched a goal and an assist and Ondrej Palat tallied 2 points in a losing cause, as the Pittsburgh Penguins took Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final by a score of 4-2. Kessel is making a case for the Conn Smythe Trophy, as he is currently sitting 3rd overall in playoff scoring with 16 points. Palat helps Lightning take Game 1 May 16, 2016

Ondrej Palat scored a goal and added an assist on Friday, in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Stamkos and linemates guide Lightning to win January 13, 2016

A line consisting of Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat and Vladislav Namestnikov provided all the firepower that the Lightning needed last night, in their 4-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Stamkos was named the first star of the contest, scoring twice and leading all players in shots with 7. Palat was equally productive, scoring a goal and adding two assists, while finishing the game with a plus/minus of +3. As for Namestnikov, his two assists pushed his point streak to three games. In that timeframe, the Russian rising star has five points and a plus/minus rating of +7.

Palat stars in Tampa Bay’s Game 3 win June 09, 2015

Ondrej Palat scored the tying goal last night, and the Tampa Bay Lightning went on to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 3-2. After falling behind 2-1 early in the third period, the Lightning struck back immediately through Palat, who jammed home his 8th goal of the playoffs just 13 seconds later. The 24-year-old winger has been a clutch performer all postseason for the Lightning, with six of his eight goals coming in the third period of mostly tight games.

Palat guides Lightning into Stanley Cup Finals June 01, 2015

Ondrej Palat scored the insurance goal on Friday night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning held on for a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers, booking their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals in the process. The Czech-born star has been one of the most dynamic players of the NHL Playoffs this year, lighting the lamp on seven occasions while adding eight assists. He has the best shooting percentage of the remaining players in the Playoffs, scoring at a rate of 25.9%.

Palat provides spark in Lightning win May 21, 2015

Ondrej Palat was named the second star last night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning erased an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the New York Rangers by a score of 6-5 in overtime. The Czech-born rising star, who is currently riding a four-game point streak, scored two goals and added an assist in the contest. The 24-year-old has been one of the best players for the Lightning this postseason, registering 13 points (six goals, seven assists) and an NHL-best four power play goals.

Palat guides Lightning to big win April 10, 2015

Ondrej Palat was named the third star last night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning took down the New Jersey Devils by a score of 4-3. The Czech-product was instrumental in the victory, setting up three of the team’s four goals.  The win gave the Lightning a chance of securing the second best record in the Eastern Conference, with one game remaining on the schedule. As for Palat, he goes into the season finale with new career-highs in assists (47) and points (63).

Palat proving rookie season was no fluke February 23, 2015

After taking the league by storm in his rookie campaign, Tampa Bay Lightning star Ondrej Palat has carried his excellent play into this season. The 23-year-old Czech winger has continued to improve in all aspects of his game, and has even entered the Selke Trophy conversation, the award handed out to the best two-way forward in the NHL. Currently on a five-game point streak (4 goals, 3 assists), Palat has proven to be as good offensively as he has been defensively.  Through 58 games, he has 15 goals (including 5 game winners), 32 assists, and a plus/minus rating of +27 (5th best in the league).

On Saturday night, Palat was named the first star of the contest, scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in the Lightning’s 4-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Palat rewarded for breakout rookie campaign June 09, 2014

After being named one of the finalists for the Calder Trophy (NHL rookie of the year), Ondrej Palat was re-signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning today, inking a three-year deal. The 23-year-old had a fantastic 2013-2014 season, scoring 23 goals and 39 assists with a +/- rating of +32. He was equally productive in the playoffs, netting twice and adding an assist in just 3 games played.
